Red White and Blue for You

Don’t just decorate your table for the 4th of July.  Create an array of red, white and blue treats.

***RED APPLESAUCE SIDE DISH***

  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1/4 Cup cinnamon (red hot) candies-Crushed
  • 1 (3oz) package red gelatin( strawberry or cherry)
  • 1 Cup applesauce

    Red Applesauce

How To:

  1. Bring water to a boil.
  2. Dissolve the cinnamon red hot candies in the boiling water.
  3. Mix in and dissolve the red gelatin.
  4. Transfer to a medium bowl or 8×8″ square pan.
  5. Mix in the applesauce.
  6. Chill in refrigerator four hours, or until firmly gelled.

***WHITE CAKE MIX COOKIES***

Soft Sugar Cookies, only 5 ingredients

When I was in 8th grade my friend would bring cake mix cookies, and shared them with me.  It has taken me this long to try to bake my own cookies.

  • 1 Box white cake mix
  • 1 Teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/2 Cup cooking oil
  • 1/2 Teaspoon vanilla extract

How To:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. DO NOT FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THE BACK OF THE CAKE MIX BOX.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the cake mix and the baking powder.
  4. Mix in the eggs, oil and extract.
  5. Stir together-then drop by tablespoons onto a cookie sheet.
  6. Bake 8-10 minutes(do not over bake) or bottoms will get crispy.
  7. Let sit on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to wire rack.

***BLUE GELATIN PRETZEL SALAD***

  • 1 1/2 Cups crushed pretzels
  • 1/3 Cup margarine-melted
  • 1 Teaspoon white sugar
  • 1/2 (8oz package cream cheese) softened
  • 1/3 Cup white sugar
  • 1 Cup whipped topping
  • 1 Package (3oz) blue gelatin
  • 1 Cup boiling water

How To:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  2. In a large bowl mix crushed pretzels, melted margarine and 1 teaspoon sugar.
  3. Press crushed pretzel mixture into the the bottom of a 8×8 baking dish and bake in preheated oven 8 minutes.
  4. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
  5. Cream together cream cheese and 1/3 cup sugar.
  6. Fold in whipped topping and spread evenly over cooled pretzel mixture.
  7. In a medium bowl dissolve gelatin in 1 cup boiling water.
  8. Allow gelatin to cool until just thickened.
  9. Pour gelatin over cream cheese mixture and refrigerate until set.  About 4 hours.
