Listening Guides and Sermons for Building A Storm Proof Life

5 For Times of Loneliness (2 Timothy 4:9-21)

Today, we are wrapping up our sermon series called “Storm-Proof” In this series, we have been building on a biblical foundation to ensure in stormy times we will not be moved and not be shaken. But rather, we would Know God as your refuge and source of strength; making our lives Storm-proof!  Today, I want to focus our attention on, “Strom Proofing our lives for times of Loneliness. The Apostle Paul in our text is feeling the sting of loneliness and we can see from him and his experience how can we storm proof our lives for times of loneliness.

We all know what loneliness feels like. No matter the cause – We must storm proof our lives for these times, because we will have these times in our lives!  By following Paul’s example – we can see what we need and how to go about storm proofing our lives for these times:

  1. Acknowledge the problem and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
  2. Take appropriate action; Specifically –
  3. Seek out right companionship
  4. Take care of yourself physically
  5. Continue to feed and fill your mind with good things
  6. Find our greatest hope and comfort for these times in the Lord, as Paul did (He alone will never leave you or forsake you (Heb. 13:5).

4 For Times of Aging (Psalm 90:12; Joshua 14:10-12)

In our currently sermon series called “Storm-Proof” we are discussing and finding answers for some of life’s toughest storms. We are learning how to prepare ourselves to trust God in all circumstances and how we can trust God when we don’t understand all that is happening around us. We want to build on a biblical foundation to ensure in stormy times we will not be moved and not be shaken. But rather, know God as your refuge and source of strength; making our lives Storm-proof! Today, I want to focus our attention on, “Strom Proofing our lives for times of Aging”. In order to storm proof our lives for times of aging, we have to cultivate the right attitude about it. In our texts we see two aging men with the right attitude toward aging. Moses – We should count our days and make every day count! Caleb – I may be aging, but God’s not done with me yet!

The generations that follow are learning about growing old from us. And we are tasked with being good examples. In order to do this we must storm proof our lives for times of aging by cultivating the right attitude about it.

3 For Times of Betrayal  (John 13:18-27)

We are currently in a sermon series called “Storm-Proof”.  In this series we are discussing and finding answers for some of life’s toughest storms. We are learning how to prepare ourselves to trust God in all circumstances and how we can trust God when we don’t understand all that is happening around us? In this series, we want to build on a biblical foundation to ensure in stormy times we will not be moved and not be shaken. Today, I want to focus our attention on, “Storm Proofing our lives for times of Betrayal” There is no greater example of betrayal than the story of Jesus and Judas.

The ways we storm proof our lives for times of betrayal is by following the example of Jesus; It is a difficult process, but we can do it with His help!  Jesus, the one who died on the cross and was betrayed by his closest friends, understands our feelings of betrayal intimately. We can lean on Him and He will give us strength so we will not be moved or shaken in times of betrayal.

2 For Times of Discomfort (2 Corinthians 12:7-10)

We are currently in a sermon series called “Storm-Proof.” In this series we are discussing and finding answers for some of life’s toughest storms: We are learning how to prepare ourselves to trust God in all circumstances and how can we trust God when we don’t understand all that is happening around us?  We want to build on a biblical foundation to ensure in stormy times we will not be moved and not be shaken. But rather, God as your refuge and source of strength; making our lives are Storm-proof! Today, I want to focus our attention on, Building a Storm Proof Life for times of DiscomfortIn our text, The Apostle Paul was experiencing a time of discomfort in his life? He calls it a messenger from Satan. He prayed about it (3 times in fact) asking the Lord to remove it from him. But God said “My grace is sufficient for you.” God never does or allows anything a purpose. So, how can we storm proof our lives for times of discomfort? We can do this by seeing some of the benefits that come from times of discomfort that the Lord either allows or causes to come into our lives?

God can either cause Himself or allow through Satan and others, discomfort to come into our lives. Some discomfort is temporary and some can last longer or never leave. We don’t want to resist these times because we know God never does or allows anything without a purpose. We can best storm proof our lives for times of discomfort so that we will not be shaken or moved by them, when we see there are benefits that come from these times of discomfort.

1 For Times of Trouble
(James 1:2 – 12)

In light of the recent storms and threats of storms, I would like to use these storms as a metaphor for the storms we face in.  In this ser lifeies I would like for us to discuss and answers some of life’s toughest storms: Such as how to handle times of trouble, discomfort, betrayal, aging and loneliness. My desire is that we learn how we can prepare ourselves to trust God in all of these circumstances and more. Trust God when we don’t understand all that is happening around us? And build on a biblical foundation to ensure in stormy times like these, we will not be moved, not be shaken. But rather, know God as your refuge and source of strength; so our lives are Storm-proof! Today, I want to focus our attention on, “Building a storm proof life for Times of Trouble”.

TROUBLE – who knew it; it’s a place where we can find joy!  If you’re in a time of trouble today, believe God has a purpose and a will. Seek them out in His wisdom and, when they have produced in you God’s desire, you will find yourself rejoicing over what you have discovered!

Building a storm proof life for times of trouble begins with laying the right foundation so when trouble comes, we will not be moved, or shaken. But rather, stand firm, Knowing God is our refuge and source of strength!
