Whoohooo! March means Resident’s Appreciation Days!!! This is definitely one of my favorite times of the year. I hear this year Team Tanglewood will be challenging you to a new game??? I’ll let Billie fill you in on all the details, just know that we look forward to it, and hope we can win at least one game this year!! We got royally spanked by the water volleyball team last year!
Home sales are BOOMING!! We look forward to a new addition for the sales team this month. More information will be announced at Monday morning coffee and in April’s newsletter.

RESIDENT APPRECIATION DAY NEWS
Tuesday, March 13th: 6:00- 9:00 pm, Dance at the clubhouse with entertainment by Wendy & Dennis Jager. Get decked out Hawaiian style. Wear your best flowered shirt, find your grass skirt, and receive a lei when entering the clubhouse. Of course, we will have a photo opportunity for all. Appetizers will be served and all tables will have sodas. Everyone is welcome to BYOB!! Please sign up on the credenza if you are planning on attending this event.
Thursday, March 15th: Catered meal and music in the bash area. As in previous years, there will be two seatings. First seating 2:00 pm, entertainment Jimmy Duke, second seating 4:00pm, entertainment Joyce Boivin. *Please note meal will be on Thursday again this year.
This will require a meal ticket. If you are new to the neighborhood and have not received a ticket yet, please see Billie in the Activities Office.
Thursday, March 15th: 7:00 pm, Clubhouse – Show – Sala’s South Seas Revue – The rhythmic drums of Tahiti and the haunting echo of the conch shell as “Sala’s South Seas Revue” takes you on an enchanting and unforgettable journey through the islands of Polynesia. As is the case at all luaus, take your shoes off, get comfortable, and relax as the beautiful and exotic dancers of Polynesia dazzle you with their colorful costuming, songs and dances.
The highlight of the show builds to a fever pitch, drums roaring, introducing our Samoan Fireknife dancer, as our Chiefyou with his daring and spectacular warrior’s dance of the fire.

Congratulations!! his beautiful yard and well-groomed home is appreciated by all our residents. The judging includes a well maintained yard, clean exterior of the home, as well as maintained plants and shrubs.
Each month we will recognize a home with beautifully maintained yard. The Award sign will be in the yard for one month. A resident committee chooses a yard each month, and there are several guidelines they must follow.

The members of the Dog Owners Guild invite all pet owners to join us at the annual Pet Parade to be held on Tuesday, March 6th, from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm in the Bash Area behind the Clubhouse.
We will have contests, games and prizes, and will be serving dog treats and people treats. We always have lots of fun at the Pet Parade so come and bring your pets!
WHAT’S HAPPENING IN DIVERSIONS
The Craft Fair isn’t until November 10th, but tables will go on sale at Coffee on Monday, March 5th. The cost remains at $5. Only residents can get tables.
An old favorite returns on March 22nd, if we can find enough volunteers to make a Golf Cart Poker Run a reality.
We’ll be needing at least 40 helpers, some in the Clubhouse, and some as House Hosts, greeting the players and letting them choose a card.
Check the sign-up sheet and indicate whether you want to play or help.
There will be an indoor route set up in the hall for those with physical limitations or who have no golf cart. (House Hosts can play the indoor version if they come up to the hall early.)
Looking ahead to April, start planning for the First Ever combination Cupcake Caper and Chili Cook-off. The date will be announced at Coffee, and in the TWRTimes as the time gets closer.
Broadway Lights returns on April 20th and 21st with another Great American Musical, with all new songs from New York’s Great White Way.

TANGLEWOOD DANCE COMMITTEE NEWS
RICK ARNOLD IS BACK TO ENTERTAIN US ON SATURDAY, MARCH 10TH.
He is a great entertainer, musician, and Nashville songwriter. Born in Eastern Kentucky, he took his music to Nashville where he spent 24 years as a successful songwriter. Hank Williams Jr. recorded his song “Hogwild” with it being the title cut on the record.
Rick is a full time entertainer. He will be playing and singing favorite oldies from the 60’s and 70’s, both rock-n-roll, and some old country. He plays guitar and harmonica. Rick’s show is very high energy, and with his great personality and talent, it’s always a good time.
Tickets for Rick Arnold will be for sale at the door beginning at 6:30PM. Residents are $5 with badge and guests / nonresidents $6. Bring your own drinks and snacks. Ice will be supplied at the tables. The dance is from 7-10 PM.
THE CALIFORNIA TOE JAM BAND is coming back to Tanglewood on Saturday, March 24, 2018.
Tickets will be on sale Monday, March 5th, after Coffee, and at the March 10th dance if not sold out after Coffee. Admission is by pre-sold ticket only.
Dance night, the doors open at 6:00 with dance from 7-10 PM.
MEET A VETERAN
William “Bill” Clemmens
Bill was born in Oaklyn, New Jersey in 1931. Raised in Camden, New Jersey, he entered the Navy reserves in 1949. Bill saw early reserve duty in Newport, RI.
Bill was discharged and returned to New Jersey. Being so close to the Philadelphia Navy Yard, Bill joined the Navy select reserve. Bill knew his way around the galley, and was soon cooking on the USS Thabberer DD418 and the USS McNair DD679.ships were deployed to the Caribbean, Europe, and during the Cuban Missile crisis and John Glenns’ space mission.
In May, 1963 Bill received his honorable discharge and returned to New Jersey to care for his family. Bill and Bonnie had been married in 1955 and were raising 4 sons. Bill went to work for US Steel, and retired in 1981 after 27 years. Bill also did security work for the county courthouse.
Bill and Bonnie moved to Pompano Beach, Florida, and in 2001 they saw a newspaper ad for Tanglewood and made the move. Bill returned to New Jersey for several years to place flags on Veterans graves in local cemeteries.
Bill is one of the founding members of the Tanglewood Veterans Group, and is still very active in many ways. He obtains the food for the annual picnic, organizes the Flag disposal ceremony and Memorial Day activities.
Bill is a Legion member, and a lifetime member of the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranches as the result of a generous donation made by his family. Bill is active in the church, and is always ready to help someone in need.

THANK YOU FROM THE ART LEAGUE
Thank you all for the success of the Tanglewood Art League’s 8th annual Art Exhibition and Sale on January 20th.
A special thanks goes to our Chairperson, Joyce Robbins, who always steers us in the right direction, Merry Mary Fulton who provided lovely music the entire day, and Pat Reich and helpers for the light refreshments. We would also like the thank Greg Plank for setting up the clubhouse, the Tanglewood tech crew, and June George and Don Eckstein for all raffle sales.
We had two wonderful works of art to raffle the day of the exhibition. The first, a painting by our member, Virginia Elsen, was won by Dottie McCarthy. The second, a digital photo of a rare pigmy fringe tree by artist Karla Respress, was won by Barbara VanDick.
The scholarship money collected will be awarded to an art student at SFSC in April at their Juried Student Art Exhibition. We look forward to next year!
The April Petanque Tournament will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 9:00 am. Sign up will begin at Monday Morning Coffee on March 26th and continue at the courts during daily play. The cost to play is $5.00 per person.
Included with this cost you will receive lunch consisting of grilled hot dogs, chips, and soda/water.
Tournament players will be on a first sign up, first pay basis for Tanglewood residents. Guest of residents may play only if we do not have enough residents to play.
Daily play times are at 1:30 in the afternoon and 6:00 in the evening (weather permitting). New players are welcome.

March 11th – The Richie Hayes Variety Revue, St Patrick’s Day Show!
This show is new to Tanglewood, but Richie was in our Showcase last year. After his performance many of you requested Richie come back and provide us a “New Generation of Irish Entertainment”. Richie has been involved in the entertainment world for over 24 years, and is now recognizable and much-loved face in TV, Theatre, and Pantomime.
This seasoned entertainer fronted the world-famous Jury’s Irish Cabaret, along with tours of America & Canada including Caribbean Cruises. He has hosted Musicals and Pantomime’s over 15 years at The Gaiety Theatre, Dublin and Limerick’s UCH.
March 25th – Comedian Dick Hardwick and Sensational New Singer, Tony Knight!
One of the most sought-after corporate and special event comedians in the country, Dick Hardwick has recently returned from his 2nd Around the World Tour with Lee Greenwood & the New England Patriot Cheerleaders for the United States Air Force Reserve. He has also been making his mark on the public by appearing in concert with the legendary Johnny Mathis and Reba McIntyre.
Tony Knight is a terrific new addition to our list of entertainers. Tony also was in our Showcase last year and was a huge hit! Again, many of you stated that you wanted to have Tony back for the season and we listened. He has a fantastic range of songs and he keeps the audience engaged in his songs. Watch, he just may come off stage and sing a song to you!

TANGLEWOOD BICYCLE GROUP
Welcome to all our old friends and new friends who enjoy riding their bike.
This is a group of riders out to do a casual ride in the neighborhoods around Tanglewood. The rides are between 14 – 20 miles with lots of breaks in between.
We are a helmet wearing group. We meet on Wednesdays stopping for lunch.
All rides start at 10:00 AM, meeting at the comfort station in the Outback.

The Tanglethread Quilters invite you to attend their quilt show Thursday, March 8th, in the Main Hall of the clubhouse, from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
Enjoy displays of large and small quilts, other sewn items and quilting demonstrations. Check out the sale table. Talk with a quilter about our group. If you quilt or would like to learn, we would be happy to have you join us.
The Tanglethread Quilters meet on Wednesdays in the Craft Room.
TANGLEWOOD RV CLUB
The Tanglewood RV Club had its monthly meeting February 13, 2018.
We have moved the location of our monthly meeting from the Bingo Area to the Community Room. It fits our group better, and is easy to hear.
Our next Rally is the first week of April at Sun and Fun in Sarasota, Florida. Looks like a good turnout with plans for a dinner at a local Amish Restaurant, and a Pot Luck at the campgrounds.
Other activities are a visit to a Wild Life Sanctuary, and those that have not seen the Barnum Home, Circus Museum and Art Museum are in for a pleasant surprise.
Plans are in the making for the Annual Rodeo in Arcadia, Florida for March, 2019.
A small group of us are going to Lion Country Safari for Thanksgiving. The Park has a Special which includes RV Spot, Sunday morning breakfast and tickets to Lion Country for a very good price.
Of Course, a Thanksgiving Dinner that’s available for a fair price. We went a few years ago, and it was an awesome trip. Waking up to Lions roaring, is something you don’t do everyday.
The Club Picnic will be March 16, 2018 in the pool area.
Ruth is starting to work on the Food Drive, can’t start too early. The RV Club supports and works hard to help this worthy cause. We will have our table at the Craft Fair the 2nd Saturday in November.
We are looking at the Silver Palms RV Resort in Okeechobee, Florida for a future Rally. Also, a Rally for next Season at Lion Country Safari. Other Rally’s are in the making.
We are always welcoming new members. Our meeting is the 2nd Tuesday of the Month at 2:00 PM in the Community Room of the Club House.
