Roger Beauman, Artist and Photographer
Roger has been interested in the arts from an early age. He has explored various mediums and processes of creating art through the years. His showcase display features a mix of artworks that express his curiosity. Roger continues his journey in the arts in retirement as a member of the Tanglewood Art League and the Tanglewood Photography Club. We hope you enjoy his montage of work on display in the clubhouse showcase this month.
Roger enjoys nature photography. This untitled photo, shown above left, was taken at Highlands Hammock State Park. Roger dramatized the photo, shown above right, using a digital shutter zoom technique.
Roger provided the following information about his life and career:
“I married my beautiful wife in 1967, enlisted in the Air Force in 1968, was commissioned in 1980 and retired April Fool’s Day 1991, after twenty three years of service. I earned a BS degree in Business and Management from the University of Maryland in 1978 and an MA degree in Computer Resource Management from Webster University in 1985. After retirement from the Air Force I became an Air Force contractor, where I gained extensive experience in project and technical management, as well as life cycle software development of government systems. I began adjunct teaching Project Management for Information Systems for Webster University’s master’s program in 1990, where I continued to teach for twenty years. During my teaching career I also taught computer and information technology classes for the University of Southern Mississippi, McKendree College and Belleville Area College. In 2005, I became a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
My wife and I have four children and ten grandchildren – all located in Southern Illinois. During our almost fifty one years of marriage, we’ve moved fifteen times, living in Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Michigan, Alaska, Minnesota, New York, New Mexico, Mississippi, Illinois and Florida. In addition, we lived in Madrid, Spain for four years and Kaiserslautern, Germany for eighteen months. We have enjoyed camping and RVing for many years. We moved into our Florida home in 2014 and are now full-time residents here in Tanglewood.
My showcase display features an oil painting created while in Spain. I’ve also included experimental photography – both traditional and contemporary. Recently I’ve taken a beginning drawing class from Beverly Marshall in Avon Park, and I’m currently taking a fifty two week online photography class.”
Roger shot this portrait in black and white photography, developed the film, printed it, and hand tinted the print using Marshall Oil Colors. This is considered ‘old school’ by today’s digital photography standards.
Be sure to watch for Roger’s creative artworks in the Community Room Gallery in the future!
