Tanglewood Veteran’s Memorial Service

Lest We Forget

The Tanglewood Veterans and guests meant at the Clubhouse Flagpole at 8:00 am for a brief ceremony to honor our veterans who have given their lives for our freedom. Ambrose Brooker the Assistant Commander of the Tanglewood Veterans started off the program with a few comments concerning the reason we were gathering at the flagpole. Bill Clemmens the former Commander of the Tanglewood Veterans then proceeded to introduce Assistant Chaplin Melvin Ridley to lead in prayer. Then the veterans were called to attention as the flag was raised to full staff, then lowered to half staff in honor of the veterans who have died for our country. Boy Scout Troop 846 under their Scout Master Gary King raised the flag. Two of the boys who participated have just become Eagle Scouts. The veterans gave those two boys a round of heartfelt applause.

Veteran Jack Nelson then awarded to Ron Weidner a plaque for starting the Tanglewood Veterans and his 14 years as Commander. Due to Ron’s health which kept him from being at the Flagpole Service his brother Dave Weidner accepted the plaque for him. Veteran Jack Nelson also awarded a plaque to Boy Scout Troop 486 for their faithfulness in participating in the Tanglewood Veterans Memorial Service over the last several years. Scout Master Gary King accepted the plaque for Troop 486. Each Boy Scout was then given an American Flag. That concluded the program!
