This past Saturday the Diversions Committee sponsored our first LIP SYNC BATTLE with ALL proceeds to benefit the RV Club Christmas Food Drive. First reports from RV Club Coordinator Heather Paine has the attendance at 215 people and the take on the evening at $1524, with the funds being donated to the Heartland Food Bank….WOOHOO! A great evening of fun for an even better cause!
Emcee Tom McKeever welcomed the very receptive audience, explained how the evening would go and then jumped into his ‘monologue’ of jokes and ‘off the cuff’ details before bringing on each act. Tom got the Main Hall rocking from the get go with his intro of our first act, AND who woulda pegged our very own Tom McKeever as a Queen fan???
Enter the TANGLE ROCKERS performing the Queen Classic, ‘We Will Rock You’. Our first act got the crowd in the right mood with their foot stomping entrance, albeit with canes and furry slippers! Front Lady Shirley Kabet got the crowd stompin right along! Thanks to Billie Pimentel-Lopez, MaryLee Cipriano, Mitzie Case, Sonia Cassell, Shirley Kabet and Artie Nichols.
Next up enter the SIDE KICKS, a truly delightful rendition of ‘Side By Side’ by Joyce Boivin and Cheryl McCullough which brought many cheers and smiles from the audience. This song has been performed by so many popular artists over the years but originally was penned in 1927. Well done Ladies!
Act 3 brought the house down as TEAM CHOOSE HAPPY performed a hilarious version of ‘Trashy Women’…senior red neck style! Goodness, hip replacements might be in order after this one. Great job and choreography by Penny & Frank Irilli, Phil & Sue Johnson and Walt & Barb Snyder.
One of the cutest acts of the evening was the 4th act of the night performed by Bob & Pauline Leonardo as the duo WRONG AND RIGHT. Their rendition of the Billie Joel Classic ‘You May Be Right’ featured a great entrance by Bob, great comic support from Pauline, and had the crowd bopping along. Too cute!
OMG where do I start with the TWISTED SISTERS and the ‘62 Classic by Sam Cooke, ‘Twistin The Night Away??? Led by Frontman Rick ’Hollywood’ Bullens and featuring some great choreography by Cre LaBozzetta, Pat Bullens, Pam Batey, Alisa Blackburn and Kathi Flyte they quickly got the crowd feeling it. THEN, they did an end around with Gene ‘The Dancing Machine’ Welbaum taking FRONT stage, literally. Gene had the moves and brought hysterics from the audience.
After a very brief intermission Tom got the crowd back into the mood with his introduction of Act 6, the DIVERSE ONES performing everyone’s favorite standard feel good tune by the Village People, ‘YMCA’. Bustin some good moves (perhaps a spell check may have been in order) these lively ladies had the crowd into it quickly. Great job and thanks go to MaryLee Cipriano, Donna Bechtol, Donna Scorse, Sonia Cassell and Shirley Kabet.
Act 7 featured the RED HOT BABES performing ‘Someday My Prince Will Come’ accompanied by a very brave Nathan Brown, and a cast of many. A very cute rendition with lots of interaction and fun. Kudos to Sandy Radawiec, Karen Nelson, Elaine Brown, Betty Doggette, Alice Mills, Gerry Humphrey, MaryLee Cipriano, and and let’s not forget Nathan Brown.
Heading down the stretch on the evening, TEAM TANGLEWOOD took to the stage with an extremely fun, well thought out version of ‘Leader Of The Pack’, including a hilarious scooter entrance. Great song, outstanding choreography and lots of stage effects including smoke, tires rolling and even the biker spirit making an appearance. Thanks go to Cheyenne Mills, Candy Bennion, Tammy Martin, Billie Pimentel-Lopez, Shelbi Manwiller and Jim & Jan Carbaugh.
Act 9 featured Shirley Kabet as the lone solo act of the evening. TROUBLE took to the stage with Shirley performing an old Kingston Trio song, ‘The Merry Minuet’. This was a very cute act and quite funny and seemingly timeless in its message. Nice going Shirley, impressive!
All good things have to come to an end, and the last act of the show were THE GHOULS doing a cool rendition of the Michael Jackson Classic, ‘Thriller’ Great stage presence, outfits, set and dancing with thanks going to Jay & Robin Etherton, Deeter ‘I won the 50/50’ Rhoton and Linda Beardsley.
***A very special THANK YOU to Shirley Kabet who spent countless hours, from her original idea at the Diversions Committee meetings, the organizing of the show and then on show night. This would not have happened without Shirley! Also a big shout out to the Tech Committee with Ken Kabet and Garland Wampler in the booth with additional support by Daryl Patrick. And we cannot forget Heather Paine, who did all the posters and programs, and recruited her RV Club friends to work selling 50/50, taking admission money, and general dogsbody work, Thank You Heather ! ***
Of course we had winners on the evening. First of all the RV Club and their Christmas Food Drive is tops. The Tanglewood Community for again stepping up for a very good cause. Thank You Tanglewood for being who we are! And Tom McKeever rose to the challenge of doing the Chicken Dance if we collected $800 or more. And here he is:
1st Place went to TEAM TANGLEWOOD with a clap o meter score of 85.
2nd Place went to TEAM CHOOSE HAPPY with a score of 82.
