WORKING TOGETHER
Where else but in Tanglewood would you find the Dog Owners Guild and the Veterans Group joining forces to work on a project to help Veterans. Many of you saw the funeral of George H.W. Bush on television. Who could forget the picture of Sully, the Service Dog, by the casket of the late President?

We started thinking that maybe we could do something to help raise money to train these dogs who do so much for our Veterans. They have served us so well, and now it is time that we served them.

Google led us to Southeastern Guide Dogs. They are located in Palmetto, FL near Bradenton. The dogs are provided at no cost to the Veterans, and they receive no government funds. They operate strictly on donations.

They provide guide dogs for vets with vision loss, service dogs for vets with PTSD and other disabilities, therapy dogs in military facilities, emotional support dogs, and Gold Star and family support dogs.We can specify that any money raised in Tanglewood would go to a dog for a Veteran in need.

We know there are many dog families in Tanglewood, and many Veterans who have served our country. Each group would like to see more of our residents join our groups, give us some ideas to raise money, and help us with this very worthwhile cause.

The Veterans Group meets the first Monday of the month after Coffee at 9:30 AM, and the Dog Owners Guild meets the first Tuesday of the month at 1:00 PM. Watch the monthly newsletter, and twrtimes.com for further information.

SECOND TUESDAY FOOD DRIVES CONTINUE
The Second Tuesday in March is the 12th, and we’ll be collecting food for one of the local food banks.

We ask you to put a sack of non-perishable food out at the end of your driveway by 8:30 for our volunteers. If you prefer, bring your donation (food or cash) to Billie’s office at any time during the month. We have so much, and there is so much need.
