FORMS ARE NOW AVAILABLE - Credenza
Special Needs Residents; (those requiring electricity for survival, such as Bi-Pap, C-Pap, Oxygen, Dialysis, etc.) should preregister with the health department to reserve a place in a hurricane shelter nearby, should the storm decide to swing by Sebring again. Application Forms will be made available soon at the clubhouse. They require a lot of information so please pick one up, or ask a neighbor to bring a form to your home.
We are NOT equipped for your health needs at the Clubhouse Hurricane shelter. You should register with Local Special Needs Shelters beginning January of each year. Application forms will soon be available on the credenza. They need to be filled out each year.
The power went out in the Clubhouse Shelter during Hurricane Irma in 2017 as did the back up generator! The Special Needs shelters are set up in various places throughout Highlands County. Once your form is turned in to the health department they will contact you with details about your stay. They will come to your home and pick you up when the shelter opens. Nurses, technicians, and doctors will be there 24/7 to assist with your health needs. Our own John McKinney stayed at a special needs shelter during Hurricane Irma, and he was quite impressed with the care he and his wife received.
More information will be coming your way in June via Monday Morning Coffee and the Newsletter. The Management Office also has a Hurricane Packet available with information on how to prepare your home prior to the storm.
Stay safe, be smart and plan ahead for the unthinkable…Irma’s mamma could be brewing up a storm in Africa!
PS: Look for my article soon on “Pet Shelter for Residents’ Animals” during a hurricane.
