Our Haunted Hotel!

Its October  and time for another weird story about Florida.  In researching hauntedplaces.org, I found this wonderful story to share with you, close to our hearts.

The Kenilworth Lodge is an historic resort hotel located at 1610 Lakeview Drive in Sebring, Florida. Constructed in 1916 by City of Sebring founder George Sebring, the Kenilworth is one of the finest examples of Mediterranean-Revival architecture in the city. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the guest rooms are furnished with pre-war Nouveau white oak furniture. There is an 80-foot swimming pool, the largest in the area. The Lodge has never closed since its opening, until recent times.

One story: A gentleman went to Sebring to help with staffing issues at a store in town about 15 years ago. He stayed here at the same time a convention was in town. He was given a third story room and kept hearing peoples murmuring voices outside in the hallway that night. He reported offhandedly to the front desk the next morning that the convention goers were kind of noisy. The reply he received was that all the convention guests were staying on the first floor and he was the only guest on the third floor. What freaked him out more than that was being awoken twice with the feeling of the mattress sinking in as if someone had just laid down next to him. Apparantly the Sebring locals know about this place. When he told the employees the next morning that he was at the Kenilworth Lodge and had trouble sleeping the reply was “oh yeah, that place is haunted”

There are a number of other ghost stories surrounding the Kenilworth Lodge. Eerie feelings are reported on the staircase, and doors have been seen opening and closing entirely on their own.

The ghost of George Parker, a former manager who died in the hotel in the 1950s, has been seen on multiple occasions.

My team has investigated this hotel many times and have had quite a few encounters. We have captured amazing EVPs, had a full body apparition appear, had return knocks from an empty room, and so much more. 100% haunted without a doubt.

I live in Sebring and have stayed here when I was having my house tented. There is something in this hotel. When you walk through the halls, you can feel a presence. Cool place to spend the night.

One of my closest friends is the overnight front desk clerk here. I had never thought about the fact that this place might be haunted. He told me a few stories about things that happened to him when he was working. Things like hearing voices or footsteps, doors opening and closing on their own, and the feeling of being watched. Besides that, he has also had MANY guests call him at the front desk to complain about loud foot stomping up and down the hallway or people talking really loud in adjacent rooms, only to find out that the rest of the floor was entirely unoccupied. He also produced a a 10 or so page packet of copies of the guest book where guests reported eerie happenings. There were a few that stated that they woke up to see someone standing at the foot of their bed and several mentioning loud stomping through the halls, unexplained music playing, and just a general feeling of unease. In the bar in the lobby, employees have witness glasses being thrown or knocked off counters, stools and chairs moving on their own and even the cash register functioning on its own. One room on the second floor, room 213, is reported to be especially haunted. Many, many years ago, a young woman checked into the room and shot herself in the head. Several years later, another young woman, checked into the very same room, and in the very same spot, also shot herself in the head.

Now, after hearing all these compelling stories, I had to check it out for myself. So I called up my buddy and had him reserve me room 213 for the night, just this past January. During the night, my friend took me all around the hotel, even to the places that were closed off to the public. I recorded a lot on my night vision camera and digital voice recorder. As of yet, I have only gone through a mere fraction of all the footage I captured. However, just in the little bit I have gone through, I have found some very compelling evidence. In my room, I captured on video an orb that runs down the length of the bed, following the curvature of the pillow and disappearing in the middle of the bed. There is a stairwell that is closed off to the public and used just for storage now. My friend brought me in there because he says that is where he gets the most creeped out. In there, I captured several little balls of light flying around at the base of the stairs. When I was sitting on the landing between the first and second floors, I was recording on my digital voice recorder and caught a few disembodied voices but couldn’t make out exactly what they were saying.

I am looking forward to finally going through the rest of my footage and sharing my findings. But this is a must-go for any paranormal enthusiast in the Central Florida area!

Stayed there for 2 nights;(Kenilworth Lodge) everything was great. We were on the 2nd floor. When we got off the shaky elevator I noticed both pictures were crooked. Told my sister that the hotel was haunted. Stayed in room 237.
Didn’t know it was until I got home and looked the place up. We left last Thursday morning;

It’s crucial to respect the entities in their realm/environment as well as imperative for a Paranormal Investigator or enthusiast to ask the spirit or spirits permission to encounter them. Be assertive but never antagonise an entity; this may bring harm to you and your crew! Most importantly, one should always pray and cleanse before entering as well as after concluding investigation at any presumed haunted place or area! Although I agree with obtaining legal access prior to an investigation, having legal permission is the least of your worries if you encounter dark entities such as demons who will harm you and follow you home, hence destroying your peace and life! Beware wannabes! Be responsible and be diligent! Blessed Be

Stayed at the hotel for a golf weekend .. I was locked
Out of my room , had to get the people at the front desk
To u locked the door … They said no one from house keeping
Was working that day. My friend said he was taking a shower
And a penny hit him in the back of the leg.

I am bored this afternoon and always wondered about Kennilworth as I live close and work across the street in kenilworth corner – I also had a penny thrown at the back of my calf while walking down hallway – NO ONE was around at all and I had no change with me nor did I have any pockets…I found your last statement interesting since I experienced the same thing!!

It should be known that the Kenilworth Lodge is closed due to code violations. It’s been closed for about a year or two (current date at the time of this comment being March 1, 2018). Just thought I’d throw that out there in case anyone reading this wanted to visit.

I don’t know about you, but I surely wish I could stay at this famous hotel!
