Hello All!! First off, I would like to say thank you to everyone for their hard work when we were threatened by hurricane Dorian. The community, staff and residents went above and beyond to make sure we were prepared if Dorian came our way. We were very fortunate that did not happen, but if it would have, we were ready. Again, thank everyone that took part in helping with that process.

On behalf of Tanglewood, we’d like to recognize all our residents who have served in the United States military this upcoming Veterans Day. We want to honor you all as it is your service and sacrifice that have kept our country safe and free. No matter which branch you served in, or how long you served, we commend you.

While vocalizing our gratitude to our veterans is a good start, illustrating it through actions is much better. So please, if you are a veteran at Tanglewood, let us honor you, your spirit, your bravery, and your service this Veterans Day. On Monday, November 11, 2019 at 8 am in the Clubhouse we will be having a pancake breakfast in your honor.

If you’d like, we encourage you to wear your uniform or bring your cover and medals. We’ll begin serving food at 8 am. There will be a sign-up sheet on the credenza for those planning on attending so we can get a count of how many pancakes we will need.

This will be available for ALL Tanglewood residents. We will still have Monday Coffee announcements, the only difference is we will be serving pancakes instead of donuts. We hope to see you all there.

The Beautification Recognition is at the home of Christina Vant Erve 1637 Primrose Lane. Congratulations!!

This beautiful yard and well-groomed home is appreciated by all our residents. The judging includes a well maintained yard, clean exterior of the home, as well as maintained plants and shrubs.

Each month we will recognize a home with beautifully maintained yard. The Award sign will be in the yard for one month. A resident committee chooses a yard each month, and there are several guidelines they must follow.

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON MOVIE—Please join us on Wednesday October 9th, at 2:00 pm for an afternoon movie. Popcorn and sodas will be provided. The movie will be “Breakthrough.”

Movie Summary: After a 14-year-old falls into a frozen Missouri lake, his adoptive parents refuse to give up hope on their son lying unconscious in a hospital bed. The boy’s mother prays intensely and inspires others to pray for him too, as she asks God for a miracle in this true story.

Come out and join us for Karaoke on Tuesday, October 22nd from 6-9 in the clubhouse. Your Karaoke host will be Wendy & Dennis Jager. We will be serving beer, wine, and sodas. All of this provided by Hometown America. Please remember to wear your ID badge.

One turkey will be provided per table with 12 people.

The last day to sign up will be Friday, November 15th. Turkeys will be distributed on Monday, November 25th, following Coffee until noon.

General Information -Tanglewood Golf Association is made up of residents who enjoy a game of golf.

Membership of $40.00 for 2019 ensures HDCP records with the GHIN system, golfing 6 days a week at wonderful courses within Sebring and Avon Park: Highlands Ridge North, Sun N Lake, Pinecrest, and River Green.

Membership allows you to play in all tournaments, Match Play, Club Championship, and attend special functions such as a Bash and Closing Golf Banquet.

The October collection will be on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Have your donation of non-perishable foods out at the end of your driveway by 8:30 am. Our volunteers will come and collect them by 9:30 am. You can also bring your goods up to Billie’s office at any time.

This month the collection is going to Hands for the Homeless, who feed hundreds of needy people every week.

Special requests include toiletries (soap, toothpaste, Kotex, toilet paper) as well as the usual canned tuna, chicken, Spam, chili, hearty soups, canned fruit and vegetables, healthy cereal, peanut butter and jelly, etc.

Pop-top cans are best when they’re available since men living in their cars don’t always have a can opener.

Last month’s donation went to Faith Lutheran’s food pantry, and we received a very pleasant Thank You from them.

The first update of the directory continues to be distributed to all 576 residents photographed in 2018 and 2019. (You only get your picture taken once every four updates.)

The directory is available at Monday Morning Coffee, Wednesday evening from 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. from Bob Larocque at Bean Bag Baseball, or from the Lowrys by appointment at 863-382-6170.

Broadway Lights Theatre Company is proud to announce the season return of Daryl Patrick and his Jazz Ensemble. Friday, October 25th is the date to remember.

The season promises to bring Daryl Patrick on the vibes, Doug Andrews on the piano, Dave Naylor on the trumpet, and many other great musicians. This will be a season of great entertainment, along with new songs and musicians.

Tickets are always sold at Monday Morning Coffee. Billie has tickets in her office. Price of tickets remain at $5.00. BYOB and bring your snacks. Doors open at 6:15 with the performance starting at 7:00 p.m.

As Daryl Patrick is always quoted; “Be there or be square”. We look forward to this new season, and to seeing all of you again.

Will begin with the November newsletter. If you want the newsletter left at your home, make sure that there is a safe place where the volunteer can leave it. If you want it left on a doorstep, please provide a weight. If there is a chance that it will be blown away, the volunteer can not leave it. The volunteer will not be able to open any doors to deliver newsletters.

FYI – Each neighborhood is divided into zones. There are 45 zones and each one has a different delivery person. Therefore, if your neighbor gets a newsletter on a certain day and you do not, that may mean:

1. You have a different delivery person……
2. We do not have a delivery person for your zone….. or
3. There was no safe place to leave it.

Be patient. If by the first of the month, you do not receive a newsletter, they will be available on the credenza in the clubhouse or at the business office. If for some reason you get skipped more than once, email me and we will get it worked out. The office has nothing to do with the delivery of the newsletter. Do not call them.

We need people who will sub when a regular route delivery person is unable to deliver. This involves about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes per month, and there are no more than 35 papers to be delivered.

You do not have to be an established resident to help. New residents are more than welcome to help out. It’s a great way to meet new people. If you’d like to come on board, please e mail me at ………

Our first special meal of the season will be on Tuesday, October 15th, in the Tanglewood Clubhouse. The cost is $8.00, and the menu is as follows: an appetizer, pork chops, baked potato, green beans, and a dessert.

Doors open 5:00 and dinner served at 5:30. Take out available at 6:00. Tickets available at Monday Coffee and in the Activities Office.

Our project on October 11th will be a fall hanging needing the following:

  • 3 spatter screens
  • 1 pkg nautical rope
  • 2 bunches of fall flowers
  • 1 roll of ribbon for bow
  • glue gun and glue

On Oct 25th cake decorating will be presented by Loretta No Supplies needed. Just show up for fun.

Since it is now October and you most likely have had your fill of pumpkin spice everything, this is a great time to turn your thoughts to the RV Club’s annual Christmas Food Drive along with tons of fun!

To begin with, to keep celebrating the 18 years of the Food Drive, the Bingo Committee begins the fun by holding Bingo for the Food Drive on Monday, October 14 and again on November 11.

In addition to the regular games, special 50/50 drawings will be held. So, plan ahead and pack some extra cash along with your colorful daubers.

As if that is not enough fun, you will not want to miss the Lip Sync Contest on Saturday, October 19 at 7:00 PM. It is being sponsored by the Diversion Committee to benefit the Food Drive.

The $5 admission benefits the Food Drive as will the 50/50 drawing so come prepared.

The round tables will be set up for audience enjoyment. Bring your own beverages and snacks. Last year’s Lip Sync had everyone smiling all evening long. Mark your calendar for an evening of guaranteed fun with your neighbors and friends.

Following that fun event, Saturday, November 9, you will find the RV Club in their usual spot at the Craft Fair. This active group will be selling their homemade baked goods at ridiculously low prices.

Again, this year RV Club members will be donating items from their home states or their summer travels as raffle items. If you recall last year’s raffle baskets, you will want to be sure to make a stop at the RV Club’s table to see their 2019 efforts!

Thursday, Oct 10th and 24th, Doors open @ 6:00 pm.
Don’t forget your name badge. $5.00 to play.
