The First Tuesday Food Collection was a success, as it has been all year. We truly thank all of you who put out sacks of non-perishable food and/or hygiene products. Our van full of stuff was delivered to Hands for the Homeless in Avon Park. They immediately started sorting through the scores of bags and shelving canned veggies, fruit, soups, cereals, etc. By close of day on Thursday, those same shelves were nearly empty again.
Apparently some houses did not get their donations picked up Tuesday morning. We try to be careful, but sometimes a grey WalMart bag on a grey driveway will escape our notice. If you’re concerned, you can always bring your sack of goodies up to Billie’s office at any time during the month.
Remember we don’t pick up from the Outback, it got too confusing with your garbage being out at the same time. What we decided to do this winter season is to check by the mailbox banks on Wilderness. You can place your bag under the boxes, if you mark it “FOOD DRIVE” there should be no confusion.
Thank you again for your continued support. The next Second Tuesday Food Collection will be November 12. It will be taken to Faith Lutheran’s food pantry. This month they’d especially like boxes of stuffing mix, canned yams, canned fruit, as well as the usual tuna, peanut butter, healthy cereals, soups, cans of chili, and the like.
