Cool Temps, High Scores

There was no sleeping for many Tanglewood residents on Saturday morning March 6. TAG members were busy in the clubhouse striking the set from their play The Cemetery Club. Pickleball was running a big tournament. And, petanque’s monthly tournament got underway at 9 AM.

Pickleball Tourney At Tanglewood

Yet another year of the Heartland Senior Games' Pickleball competition hosted by Tanglewood. The weather was better than it had been the previous week, but it was still unseasonably cool for Sebring. Competition began on Friday morning, March 5; at 8:30. The temperature was 40 degrees, but skies were clear, sun was out, and by mid-morning the conditions were ideal. Players began to peel their outermost layer of clothing. Friday's play was the mens and womens doubles' categories. 22 teams were entered in mens, and 13 teams in womens.

A Very Successful Conclusion

$55,600 ! Well, Tanglewood, we’ve done it again. For the tenth consecutive year we’ve taken up the Cancer challenge and surpassed the previous year’s total donation. Back when we started, it wasn’t so tough to beat $350 or $520. These days it takes a little more. Not to worry, we’re good for it.

Stars Shine At The Pet Parade

The Tanglewood Pet Parade originated as the Dog Days of August. It took us about ten minutes to realize that high summer was just not the best time to bring a bunch of fur-coat clad animals out and dress them in costumes. So this year what happened? Florida has turned its back on warm sunshine and we shivered. Oh well. We still had fun.

For Your Convenience

A new piece of furniture has been added to the hall! It’s located in the bingo hall, backed up to the craft room wall. This beautiful oak cabinet was built by Jim Martin, designed by the Activities Office to meet the needs of residents searching the committee books. Newspapers, bulletins, and other authorized forms selected by Janet will be displayed.

Tanglewood Elections

Annual elections were held on Monday Feb. 8th for TMAC committees offices, to serve from March 2010, through Feb 2011. Twenty six elections were held starting after Monday Coffee and finalizing at 5:40 PM. The following residents were elected to the stated committee offices.

Tanglewood Receives Another Award

A few weeks ago we received a phone call from the Salvation Army inviting us to attend their Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon.  Lunch was followed by an Awards Ceremony.  Every year there is an award given to a volunteer community that has done so much to help the Salvation Army.  We were very pleased to accept the 2009 Volunteer Community Award in behalf of Tanglewood.

COFFEE TIME
The Monday Coffee Committee will have coffee and rolls available from 8:00 AM until 8:30 AM, when we start with the pledge. When we have a sponsor, they provide the coffee and donuts, however when there is no sponsor, the cost is $1.00. Of course always free coffee refills are available. Please remember to bring your badge and coffee cup. I will keep you informed of the Mondays we have no sponsors so you have your dollars with you.

Tanglewood 10th Annual Variety Show

We are back again for the 10th year.  One of the most entertaining events of the year, put on exclusively by Tanglewood residence. Once again, this year’s show will feature a true variety of acts including: Marie Overtoom, who will entertain us with some more “new” observational humor. “Idol” finalist Janice McMellon, will belt out a tune.

Art League Open Meeting

Art lovers are invited to an exciting afternoon with guest artist Anne Watson, painting instructor at the Highlands Art League for the past ten years. Her background includes studying at the Art Students League in New York and winning many awards for her paintings.

After describing her work at HAL, Anne will talk about "Art for its own sake........is DUST!" and lead an open discussion.

Tanglewood's Happenings

Craft And Hobby Tables On Sale

This year’s Craft and Hobby show is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 13, from 8 AM until 2 PM.  Tables go on sale at Coffee on Monday, March 8.

This year we are allowing a resident to take 3 tables if they think they can fill them.  Larger pieces such as floral wreaths, afghans, and woodwork may benefit from the extra space.

Last year over 1300 people came to the Craft Fair, and we expect even more this year

Tables are $5.00 apiece.  Call Shirley at 385-6972 or Sharon at 471-2572 for information.  There are a limited number of tables with electricity.
