Oh Let Us Come and Worship the Lord (Part 6) The Proper Worship (2 Cor. 3:18)
Theme: How to get the most out of your worship
Introduction: I read the story of a little boy who got on the plane and very excitedly asked, “Are they really going to let me meet the pilot?” There was an observation made in that moment by the story teller. “No one else’s face shone with such excitement.” In fact, with few exceptions everyone else seemed to be just content. The thought occurred to me, “Were the people on the plane any different from some of the people sitting in the pews these days?” People in the pews seem to be content with coming in sitting down, enjoying the assembly with no surprises and no turbulence. (Nice is all they want), and nice is what they are going to get. Few come in with that childlike enthusiasm that wants MORE! I want to tell you today, as we wrap up this sermon series, that if we want more out of our worship experience, there is more to be had. And proper worship is the way to get it.
Conclusion: I promise you this; we will get what we want out of our worship experience. And, the proper worship will lead you to leave here today and every time, wanting just a little more!
Oh Let Us Come and Worship the Lord (Part 5) The People of Worship (Acts 2:40-47)
Theme: How to worship as the church
Introduction: The backdrop of our text is the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came to indwell all believers. Peter is preaching and God is moving as souls are being saved and the church is being birthed and built! In Acts 2:47 we read the attraction of the first church, was her true worship! In doing so, they found favor with God and man. And, in Acts 5:28b, we read they (the church) filled the city with their doctrine and turned the world upside down. The church, which is (the people of worship) were as one writer put it, “Winsome, attractive and dynamic! A true worshiping church is a built up church that is attractive to those who experience her! I want to tell you today, the biggest attraction to the church ought to be the people of worship, worshipping! While it is not our job to promote the church! It is our job to promote the true worship of the church by becoming the people of true worship! So, how can we make sure our worship, is the most attractive thing about us? Here is how…
Preference: The role of the church is first, acting in obedience to Christ to make disciples, to tell others about Christ and to serve the world. But, we must know our goals if we are to be effective and attractive in our worship. (So, today I want to give you five things to consider…)
Conclusion: The biggest attraction to our church will be the people of worship, truly worshipping!
Oh Let Us Come and Worship the Lord (Part 4) The Purpose of Worship (Psalms 100:3)
Theme: To know God more intimately
Introduction: Effective and true worship begins with a hunger for God! The whole idea of our true worship of God is; to humble ourselves (bowing down), before our creator. To serve, honor, fear and adore Him. To appreciate His infinite worth! (Gen. 24:26, 27; Ex. 4:31; 12:27; Ps. 95:6; Mt. 2:2; 28:9; Rev. 4:10; 5:14; 11:16) Our true worship of God is something joy filled and to be done to the enjoyment of God Himself! (Ps. 89:15-16; 98:4-6; Lk. 1:46, 47; 1 Pe. 1:8) Our true Worship of God is both an attitude in which a person lives and an exercise he/she carries out! Today, I want us to focus our attention on the purpose for our worship because, in order for us to get a good handle on our true worship of God we must start with understanding…
Conclusion: This is the purpose of our worship; to know God, to experience Him, trust Him, Love Him, obey Him and enjoy our relationship with Him to the fullest! If this is your desire today (and I pray it is) we should all be praying, “Dear God, I want to experience You more fully each and every day of my life. As I worship You, help me to trust, obey, and experience You more and more. Show me any areas of sin in my life that are keeping me from fully experiencing You. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.”
Oh Let Us Come and Worship the Lord (Part 3) The Place Worship Comes From (Psalms 51:10)
Theme: Having a clean heart for worship
Introduction: Throughout the centuries the church has had periods of times when the church has lost it perspective on the true worship of God. What I mean by that is Worship has become dry, mundane and lost its meaning. “Meaning” as in, “What worship means, who it is about and where it comes from.” Today I want to focus on the place that the true worship of God comes from (which, is our heart). Just because we gather together, sing songs, read scripture, and say a-men, does not mean we have truly worshiped God or worshiped God, God’s way. In both the Old and New Testaments God indicted His people and the Pharisees for worshiping God with their mouth while something different was in their hearts (or while their hearts were far from Him). So we want to ask the Holy Spirit to guide us in Spirit and truth through God’s word to understand where the true worship of God comes from and how to do it God’s way.
Conclusion: Throughout the centuries the church has had periods of times when the church has lost it perspective on the true worship of God. So, it is imperative we get it back and we get it right! I pray that this will be your commitment to the Lord today.
Oh Let Us Come and Worship the Lord (Part 2) The Priority of Worship (John 4:23b – 24)
Theme: Coming to give our worship
Introduction: Our worship is a priority and important to God and it needs to be to us too. This is why it is important for us to understand what God’s word has to say about worshiping God, God’s way. The fact is, worship is so important to God that the first four of the Ten Commandments deal exclusively with our worship. We began our series by examining a conversation Jesus had with a woman at a well about worship. Jesus tells her and us, true worship of God has nothing to do with religion, denominations or tradition. True worship of God Involves more than just our heads and hands; it must come from our heart. And, Jesus told her and us…“The father is seeking… True worshipers: those who will worship Him His way; “…in Spirit and in truth.”
Conclusion: Our worship should never be boring, because we are celebrating, focusing on and honoring and giving ourselves in worship to the one who saved us for all of eternity!
Oh Let Us Come and Worship the Lord (Part 1) The Person We Worship (John 4:20-24)
Theme: Focusing on God’s worthiness to be worshiped
Introduction: Worship is one of those activities every sincere Christian knows he ought to be doing, and even wants to do. But we’re not always sure how to go about it. When it comes to worship God has some very clear things to say about who and how we should worship. In this short series, I want us to not only to hear what God has to say about worship. But, I also want us to decide whether to obey or disobey what the Lord says when it comes to worship. And, I want us to be clear about which choice we have made. To do this, we must learn some essentials about worship. I want to share three things that will help us understand who we worship and lead us to be a church that celebrates the true worship of God according to His word.
Look and listen one more time to the awesome statement Jesus made in (v.23) “…for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.”God is looking for those who will make the decision truly worship Him, His way! That should be us!
