2020 Vision (Part 4) “Finding and Following God’s Guidelines into a new Journey” (Eph. 5:8 – 10) Testing God’s Guidance
Theme: Examining our own spiritual progress
Introduction: If you are a person who is committed to Christ, you most likely have a desire to have 2020 vision regarding God’s will for your life as you travel down the road of this new year.
In this series we have found out God’s guidance is available. We can seek it, receive it and trust it. However, you also know by now, even after following these steps, we can still lack the confidence and clarity it takes to cause us to step out and do God’s will. Determining the will of God can still be confusing and frustrating, especially when it comes to differing opinions and interpretations of the truth in regards to things like careers, dating, marriage, and day to day living and a host of social issues. So, how do we test God’s guidance to ensure we are seeing God’s will with 2020 Vision as we travel down this new journey?
Conclusion: Are you putting God’s guidance to the test in your life?
2020 Vision (Part 3) Route ’07 “Finding and Following God’s Guidelines” (1 Cor. 2:16b) Receiving God’s Guidance
Theme: How to have the mind of God by listening to the Spirit of God
Introduction: Many times in our lives we make the common mistake of trying to discern God’s will for our lives using worldly wisdom. (i.e.) signs, events, or circumstances, even the advice of others. What these methods do is help us arrive at worldly wisdom and adopt to worldly ways. Paul has stated earlier that his wisdom was not the world’s wisdom, but with the wisdom of God. And, encourages the Christians at Corinth to receive this same wisdom by telling them, they too have the mind of Christ! This is not only great advise, it is the best avenue for us to take as we travel down “Route 07.” What does Paul mean, when he says, “We have the mind of Christ?”
Conclusion: Does your daily walk reflect that you have the wisdom of the world or the mind of Christ in you as you are traveling down “Route 07”?
2020 Vision (Part 2) “Finding and Following God’s Guidelines into a New Journey” (Col. 1:9-10) Seeking God’s Guidance
Theme: Desiring God’s will over our own enough to seek it.
Introduction: We often hear people (and even we ourselves) say, “I just wish I knew God’s will in this,” or, “I just wish God would send me a sign or speak to me from heaven about that.” The good news is, God’s guidance is available and discernible. And, we can have 2020 Vision when we trust it as we head down the road of this new year. In or text Paul’s prayer of concern for the church and Christian’s at Colosse, is very fitting for today’s church and Christians. “That we the church, avoid doctrinal compromise by seeking God’s guidance and strengthening Christian practices. (Notice Paul’s prayer has three major requests to get this accomplished.)
Conclusion: If we want to know and understand God’s will for our lives it can be found with a commitment to seek it. In such a case those who do can have 20202 vision and be filled with the knowledge of His will, function in the practice of His will and find themselves fruitful and fully pleasing to the Lord as we travel down the road of this new year.
2020 Vision (Part 1) “Finding and Following God’s Guidelines into a New Journey” (Prov. 3:5-6) Trusting God’s Guidance
Theme: Acknowledging God’s ways are higher and better than our own
Introduction: We are standing today at the gate of a new year. We see the road ahead, and along this road there will be many routes we can turn down that will inevitably take us in different directions. In our text we are not only promised a safe and secure passage, but a successful arrival if we will trust in God’s guidance.
Conclusion: As we stand at the gate of this new year, looking down the road, let’s begin the new year by acknowledging: God wants to give us His guidance. He knows our need for it; He knows our failure without it. But right now He is waiting for us to pay attention to Him, trust Him with our whole heart and to reject our own abilities to guide ourselves.
He desires to give us the 2020 vision we need to travel down this new road.
