Somehow, someway and with just minutes to spare before the skies opened up, the January 4th Petanque tournament was history and in the books crowning their first Champs of 2020.
Under threatening skies and a high probability of rain, Tournament Coordinator Greg Plank set the wheels in motion with the familiar blast of the airhorn. This tournament featured 2 different start times for the 72 players on the 24 teams, all looking to make a deep run, well past the much anticipated Round 2 hot dog break.
Speaking of those hot dogs, where would the tournament be without the Petanque Grill Team consisting of Sally Petit and Bonnie Berta? A big shoutout and Thank You to our ladies for their BBQ skills and smiling faces while feeding the masses! Let’s get to the final results…
Going undefeated all day, Congratulations go out to the ‘A’ Flight Champs who were (L-R) Bob Thulin, Sue
Bryant and Bob Goble. This team was a powerhouse both on paper and on the Courts.
Our ‘B’ Flight Champs lost just the one game in the 1st round then ran the table to lay their claim. Congrats go out to (L-R) Marge Waterman, Charlie Gilmore and Margaret Comrie.
As always it takes many hands to make a tournament run smoothly, so a big Thank You to the Petanque Officers…Chair Warren Smith, Vice Chair Neville Carr, Secretary and Tourney Co-coordinator Pam Pelletier, Treasurer Bartley Rodgers, and of course Tournament Co-ordinator Greg Plank.
The next Tournament is a favorite and is the annual ‘KINGS and QUEENS’ tourney and will be held on Saturday, February 1st. Watch for signups beginning on Monday, January 20 and January 27 at Monday Morning Coffee, and up at the Courts once signups have begun. See You At The Courts!
