The Men Who Almost Missed Easter (Luke 24:13-35)

The Men Who Almost Missed Easter (Luke 24:13-35)

Theme: Resurrection

Introduction: We are living in a new day and time. The practice of social distancing has us separated instead of gathering together. But, just because we are not together does not mean we are not celebrating Easter! Easter is not canceled! Christ is still risen! And, we still have reason to celebrate His resurrection! We have before us this morning one of the most vivid and insightful accounts of our Lord’s appearances after His resurrection. And through it we see how the good news of Christ’s resurrection ministers hope to us especially in this day and time. Luke is the only one of the four gospel writers to include this story. It is a story that reveals how Jesus opens our eyes to see Him for who He is and about how we can come to know Him and the victory of His resurrection.  Notice with me, as we celebrate our Lord’s resurrection this morning, several things from this passage.

Conclusion: This dark time of our current day cannot dampen the spirits of those who know the risen, living Savior today!  Just because we are not together does not mean we are not celebrating Easter! Easter is not canceled! Christ is still risen! And we still have reason to celebrate His resurrection and know the power of it in our own lives!! Even in times like these and especially in times like these, we should want everyone to know the hope and help that comes from knowing, walking and talking with the risen Savior!!
