Love Will Draw Us Together (Part 4) God’s Love (1 Jn. 4:7-10)
Theme: God has proved His love toward us, we should love as God loves
Introduction: As we are attempting to counter a culture of hate and division in our world today, we are focusing our attention on love that will draw us together. Today, I want to focus our attention on God’s love. A lot has been said about love. But, with all that has been said about love, there is nothing like knowing and experiencing the love of God! It is the most overwhelming thing we have ever encountered in our life. It is the greatest thing God ever did for any of us! The reason I can say that is, because He loved us so much, that it moved Him to do everything else that He has done for us. Ultimately, 1 John is the great book of love. In our text John shows us how God’s love is defined, demonstrated and, finally how it is to be displayed through us.
Conclusion: We ought to praise the Lord today for His overwhelming love! And, I invite you to join me today as I ask the Lord to help me to love like Jesus. We ought also to share His love by loving one another and others exactly as we have been loved by God Matt. 22:39
Love Will Draw Us Together (Part 3) Christian Love (1 Corinthians 13)
Theme: Christian love is intentional and selfless
Introduction: As we are attempting to counter a culture of hate and division in our world today, we are focusing our attention on love that will draw us together. Today, I want to focus our attention on Christian love. Christians are compelled to love. God first loved us. We are now enabled through Christ to love others. We are to extend the love of Jesus to others (which means telling them the good news of the gospel of His saving grace). As the church, we are not just to tell them about Jesus saving grace. We are also to invite them receive Him as their Savior and join themselves to the local body of Christ. Including them in the life of His church and helping them to grow and mature in their spiritual walk. One thing we know from God’s perspective and His word, is love (especially Christian love) is a very important subject. In fact, as far as Christians go, Paul calls it “The most excellent way.” Why is this? Because it is God’s way.
Conclusion: As we are attempting to counter a culture of hate and division in our world today, we are focusing our attention on love that will draw us together. Christian love is that kind of love. And, it is the love that will draw us together as we take it into every relationship (home, family, friends, community, etc.) and to everyone we meet. We can best be Jesus to them be extending Christian love!
Love Will Draw Us Together (Part 2) Intimate Love (Song of Solomon 2:3)
Theme: Appreciating the love of our spouse
Introduction: As we are attempting to counter a culture of hate and division in our world today, we are focusing our attention on love that will draw us together. Today, I want to focus our attention on intimate or romantic love. Intimate love is a gift from God to human kind that He created and gave to be shared between males and females. What is intimate love? Some would define it as only sexual attraction or intimacy. But, I want to examine it in a broader light today. From a biblical point of view intimate love is deep appreciation of and attraction to a person of the opposite sex. It will include such qualities as affection, desire, joy, good will, commitment and fulfillment. Many Bible passages contain the principles of intimate love. But, no more vivid description can be seen than in the God inspired love song of the Song of Solomon.
Conclusion: Intimate love is a love that will draw us together. Whatever your status today, God gives blessing, meaning and direction to this kind of love. May we use this love to draw us all closer together to our Lord and each other.
Love Will Draw Us Together (Part 1) A Friends Love (1 Samuel 18:3; 20:1-42)
Theme: Strengthening the love between friends
Introduction: With so much hate going on in the world today, I want to focus our attention for the next four weeks, on the love that will draw us together. And I want to start today by talking to us about the importance of a friends love. Many people are lonely today. Not just because of the lockdown. Because even busy people whose lives are hectic and full of activity say they are lonely. What most are missing are good friends. One of the most beautiful pictures of friendship in the Bible is Jonathan and David. I want us to consider from them what it means to be a true friend. Because the word of God tells us if we are going to have friends, we need to be the kind of friend we desire to have. The story of David and Jonathan give us a classic example of true friendship.
Conclusion: With so much hate going on in the world today, it would do us a world of good to focus our attention on the love that will draw us together. And, in this day and time, we all need good friends. And to have good friends, we must first be good friends to each other! We have a wonderful illustration of a friends love in David, Jonathan and Jesus. May the Lord help us to be loving friends to each other just like them.
