Maryland Fried Chicken

The newest expansion of the Maryland Fried Chicken restaurant has landed close by, at 3750 US 27 North, that’s in the Fairmount Cinema Square next to B Lov-lee.  For take out, call ahead to 863 658 2912.

They have a large menu, beyond the fried chicken they’re known for. You can order anything from one tender ($2.00) to a 21 piece family bucket, which includes 3 large sides and 8 biscuits ($37.85).  You can order just the meat without the sides if you prefer. And how about some wings?  They come in six flavors and can be purchased by 8’s, 25’s, 50’s or 100 wings for $66.00 Sides include French fries, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, macaroni salad, baked beans, green beans or the premium sides of fried okra or corn nuggets.  (Editor’s note:  what the heck is a corn nugget?)

On the seafood side of the menu you’ll find shrimp, oysters, clams, catfish and codfish in varying sized meals.  They also feature 2 desserts, pecan pie or sweet potato pie.

I had a take-out lunch with 3 friends today.  The order was ready when we got there.  The chicken was hot and just a bit greasy, and the codfish were cakes rather than fillets as we expected.  One piece of breast with 2 sides and a biscuit cost $5.00.  Two pieces of cod, cole slaw, fries, and 2 hush puppies came to $7.10.  As you can see, the prices are very reasonable.

And for those of you who are adventurous, you can order a bucket of gizzards or livers for a mere $28.00.
