Victory in Jesus (Part 2) What Is The Resurrection Of Christ? (Mt. 16:21)
Theme: Christ’s resurrection assure us of our eternal victory
Introduction: The resurrection of Jesus is one of the most incredible events in the history of the world. Everything changed at the moment that Jesus emerged from the tomb. On resurrection Sunday, the greatest victory in human history was won and secured for all of eternity! The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the central doctrine of Christianity that affirms that God raised Jesus from the dead on the third day. The resurrection is the point at which God’s intention for Jesus becomes clear: (Eugene Peterson in the message states Rom 1:4 this way…) (speaking of Jesus) “his unique identity as Son of God was shown by the Spirit when Jesus was raised from the dead, setting him apart as the Messiah, our Master.” The resurrection is what secures our victory in Jesus! Because, on that first resurrection Sunday – when Jesus stepped out of that tomb, sin, the devil, death and the grave all went down in defeat forever! And when Jesus defeated these enemies He made a way for us to become brand new and share in His victory too! As Paul writes, But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Cor 15:57) (Jn 16:33)
This is our victory today as well! Jesus has overcome the world…However, what would it mean if there were no resurrection?
Conclusion: Today we live for and serve a risen Savior! And, I “…thank God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor 15:57)
Sharing the hope and power of the Christ and His resurrection
Victory in Jesus! (Part 1) Hail Him, Nail Him! (Mt. 21:1-11)
Theme: Palm Sunday is the start the greatest victory in history
Introduction: This morning as many of you know is known as “Palm Sunday.” A day taken from the gospel accounts in the Bible when Jesus rode into Jerusalem and a whole city threw a parade for Him. As Jesus rode into the city, the people threw Palm branches in anticipation of his coming.-Thus we get our word Palm Sunday. This day marked a time of celebration where Jesus was the worshipped and praised.
We also know from scripture that many in this same crowd will within a few short days exchange words of praise for words of death. Shouting “Hosanna, Hosanna” and then later shouting “Crucify Him, Crucify Him.” Palm Sunday commemorates the so-called “triumphal entry” of Jesus. This event is recorded in all four gospels in the Bible and you can read them in the following passages: Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-10; Luke 19:28-38; and John 12:12-18.
But, the question is asked, “What is triumphal about an entry that went miserably wrong?” After all, Jesus would be dead in five days and die a brutal death at that! To answer this question we’ll need to see three things about Jesus entrance into Jerusalem that will answer that question and ultimately lead to how we can experience “Victory in Jesus!”
This brings us back to our original question – “What is so triumphal about an entry that went miserably wrong?” The answer would come seven days later or on the following Sunday. Because that entry was the beginning of the greatest triumph ever known in history – when Jesus defeated death and won the victory over the grave! Giving us Victory in Jesus!
