There’s a new girl in town! Located at 21 West Main Street in Avon Park, the diner is making a splash in the former space occupied by the former Depot Restaurant. The menu offers an assortment of classic breakfast and lunch options with a modern diner appeal. I smiled when I saw JELLO comes with a few of the items, or you can order it separately. How’s that for a bit of nostalgia?! Our breakfast arrived hot and delicious. The potato casserole was a nice change from the traditional hash browns for me.
The interior has been freshly painted and is inspired by classic Florida style, friendly service, and great food. Since most of us are transplants I found it interesting to know the Diving Girl sign originated at the former Bennet’s Hotel, later named Reed’s Hotel in Avon Park. She was a sign to travelers they were “almost home”. You will find painted pictures of the Diving Girl, however, the actual sign resides at a local business called Pure Grit just down the street.
The Diving Girl is open Monday through Saturday from 6:00 am – 2:00 pm. You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram. Seating is handicap accessible, however, 2 of the restrooms are very small and may be hard to navigate. There is another one that is a bit larger and looks accessible, but it too is on the small side nonetheless.
