Feb 2024 It’s Heart month!

It is February 2024 ALREADY! This is the month that focuses on the heart, love, and Valentine’s Day. Time seems to be flying and changes are happening all around us (faster than most of us can keep up). I heard the story of an elderly gentleman who was one hundred years old. He was being interviewed for a news cast when the reporter stated, “Sir at one hundred years old, I bet you have seen a lot of change.” To which the elderly gentlemen responded, “Yup an I was agant everyone of em!”

One thing you and I can count on in this world is change. If you don’t like the weather, just wait a bit, it will change. Times have changed, society norms, morals, and acceptance has changed. The earth is changing. People change, the Bible tells us the heavens change, men change, some angels have changed, but God never changes! Heb 13:8 assures us, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

When everything else around me (including me) is changing – God is the one constant in my life. He is that one thing that remains constant, dependable, secure, and anchored down. I can (and sometimes we do), go away and come back and there He is always the same. This is why the writer of Hebrews encourages those who may be tempted to waffle in their faith and faithfulness in unstable and changing times, “Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines…”

There’s no reason to go in search of, or to be lured away by, some other doctrine, when we have the consistency of Christ as our faith’s foundation and focus. “For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with [perishable, temporal, earthly things like] foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them. (v.9) This is a reference to the Old Testament temple and sacrificial system (vv. 10-12)

We have the eternal, unchanging Christ and His grace, to establish our hearts. “Therefore, by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.” (v. 15) In this fast-moving, fast-changing world, there is the one thing we can count on is change! There is one that will never change – our God! And we can hold fast to Him to strengthen our faith, foundation, and future. When everything in your world is changing (whether you are for it or agant it) hold tight to our changeless Christ – He is always the same yesterday, today and forever! And you can set your heart on Him and you can always count on that.
