Christmas – Good News in Troubling Times (Part 5) The Meaning of Christmas

Published on

Christmas Good News in Troubling Times (Part 5) The Meaning of Christmas  (Lk.2:6-19)

Theme: The purpose of Jesus coming

Introduction: Are you experiencing the power of the advent in every area of your life? The Latin word for advent means “to come.” And is used primarily to designate a period of time just before Christmas.

During which Christians prepare for the Christmas season and reflect on the meaning of the coming of Christ into the world. That is what we want to do this Christmas Eve morning. But did you know, we can experience in Christ, a daily Advent. We can experience in us daily what happened in Bethlehem those many years ago when Jesus came to us and for us. I want us to spend some time today rediscovering the meaning of Christmas which begins with advent.

Conclusion: The meaning of Christmas is simple; that we can be filled every day, and in every way, daily with advent of Christ’s presence and power because He has come into our lives, born in us!

God with us, and God in us, through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Christmas Good News in Troubling Times (Part 4) The Good News of Love  (Luke. 2:1-7)

Theme: The comfort of God’s love that we know from Jesus coming and the promise of His coming again in our times.

Introduction: At Christmas time, we tend to focus our attention on the infancy of Christ. But the greater truth of Christmas is His deity. This baby who was born in the manger was God Himself in human form. Christmas is a celebration of the love that brought God to do this incredible act and become our Immanuel – God with us!  Today we will be celebrating the candle of love, as we are reminded Christmas is about the celebration of the promise, power, and pinnacle of God’s love toward us.

Conclusion: At Christmas we have a tendency to focus a lot of attention on that baby in the manger, but the deeper truth is that this baby who was born in the manger was God Himself in human form. Making Christmas a celebration of the love that brought God to do this incredible act and become our Immanuel – God with us! This love of God is expressed to the one God loves most – YOU!  And He loves us so much, He has promised to Come again so where He is, we may be also (Jn. 14:3)! (Even so, come Lord Jesus!)

Christmas – Good News in Troubling Times (Part 2) The Good News of Peace  (Matthew 2:7- 8)

Theme:The Peace of Jesus coming and coming again brings to us in our times

Introduction: While it is not common for us to think of things such as pain, suffering, injustice, and cruelty as associated with Christmas, Jesus was born into the midst of a time of cruelty, suffering and death. And it was into a time of anger, hatred, and malice that Jesus, the prince of peace emerged into bringing a peace that saves, secures, and satisfies men.

Conclusion: While it is not common for us to think of things such as pain, suffering, injustice, and cruelty as associated with Christmas, it is still a time to celebrate in the midst of all this stuff, because we know God sent us the Prince of Peace. – Jesus! Our Emmanuel, God, with us!

Let’s make this Christmas a celebration of peace that only comes through Jesus, our Prince of Peace!
