Books For Thought

The Stranger in the Lifeboat (2021) by Mitch Albom is a survival tale of those on a sinking yacht.  In this page turner you may find yourself reading through in one sitting. To be very honest, I read through it quickly and rather wish I had not.

You may just want to read one chapter at a time in order to give what you read more thought.  Reading it slowly will allow you to ponder what may, or may not happen next.  Your heart may even get involved in this tale.  Warm feelings may well up, or your heart may ache when going through the twists and turns you encounter.

Lives of those on the boat are woven together.  Each have their own secrets.  Will there be a second chance for any of the survivors?  Hmm?  You may want to think about that yourself.  One passenger kept a journal of those survivors on board.

The Stranger in the Life Boat is an easy read of not only suspense, but it is also quite meaningful.  A second reading would surely not be out of the question.  It may be even more thought provoking.

Warning:  Do NOT allow the title of the following book to deter you from reading this wonderful collection of essays.  I almost passed it by!  It would have been my loss.

The Antropocene Reviewed (2021) by John Green.  Anthropocene is pronounced: (An thru puh seen).  It’s meaning?  Period of time during which activities have a distinct, significantly modified our planet.

What you find when you open the pages of this this book is a thoughtful series of narratives that are a variety of witty, thoughtful, informative topics on all different subjects. Not just that, you will also discover connections within each essay to life as you know and live it.  You may even wonder, could the author be reviewing your life or mine? Something to think about!

You will also come away having learned about the John Green’s background.

Take a chance.  Fear not, there will not be a test as in Science Class.  What you will find is humor, wisdom, seriousness. Your sensitivity about the world around all of us may be amended enough to that we will want to see our earth with different eyes and protect it.  I encourage you to take the same chance I did.  Read The Anthropocene Reviewed.  It is not nearly as difficult as the word Antropocene makes it sounds.
