Alopecia

Al-o-pe-cia

Noun

Loss of hair, wool or feathers

Wanda was surprised to learn that birds can suffer from alopecia too when her budgie started to lose his feathers.

This one goes all the way back to the Greek word alopekia, meaning bald spot on the top of the head.  It was first used in English in the 14th century.
