There was definitely a UFO sighting in the Clubhouse Sunday night. In the shadow of darkness came sights and sounds like never before seen or heard from within the Clubhouse walls. More than four hundred residents packed into chairs, and around tables sipping their libations of unknown origin while listening to the music of the Orlando Transit Authority, Chicago Tribute Band.
It made its first appearance as the band began winding down. It took some by surprise. Others may not have noticed right away as they were mesmerized by the music in the air. Couples were dancing in nearly every corner. But up on the ceiling and around the walls there was a flash of green slowly swirling into a splash of red, then it swooped all around the building. It hovered over the audience while they clapped and danced. It gave a mysterious glow as it brushed past unsuspecting faces as it swept back up into the ceiling, then disappeared.
The source and sighting of this UFO (unusual flying object) came from within the building. In the dark shadows of the night, there is a dimly lit room where only computer screens can see as they listen to the soundboards humming to the tunes outside the window. It is inside the tiny room, where it all began…our new baby, a bouncing 20lb ‘Little Mover’, the offspring of a lightboard that wanted to shine in places where no light had shown before. And on this night, it made its debut in front of over four-hundred unsuspecting residents, many of whom still didn’t actually see it, and most of those who did see it, had trouble convincing their friends when they described it.
It happened so fast…. Maybe at the next show ‘Little Mover’ will come out to play. In the meantime, in the dark desert highway, of US 27, down the Tanglewood Parkway, stands the largest Clubhouse built by HTA. It gets a little spooky inside there at night when the lights go down.
Meditate on this: Someone on the Tech crew was on cloud 9 as they manipulated the sliders on the lightboard as a pianist would play Beethoven on a baby grand. He was a proud papa, and he smiled, while he watched some of the audience ‘notice’ his new baby, gliding here and there while changing into various shapes and colors to match the aura of music in the air.
The show is now over. But we’ve only just begun…The Tech crew is expanding, expecting and expediting a bright new look for all to enjoy!
PS: all pregnancy tests came back negative. Although some were loosening their belts after eating Nola’s dessert cakes, so expansion is on the rise. And, one more thing. Wasn’t it great to see our cohort in crime, ‘ Frank’ on his ‘scooter shooter’ again last night, haunting the aisle just below the stage.
We’re a peculiar bunch of Tech booth volunteers. We have radios, headphones, iPads, Tablets, Microphones, Video and audio equipment literally coming out of our ears. So be careful around that quiet darkened room called the Tech Booth. Ours are not the only cameras alive at any point in time in the clubhouse.
Although, our new cameras have a zoom lens from inside the booth that can examine your nose hair while you’re standing at the back of the stage. If only we could remember our secret codes to get in the combination door!
We all love what we do and it shows because most of us practically live there. It’s been said, that upstairs in the crow’s nest there is rumored to be a pillow and blanket.
The ‘Little Mover’ is always looking for something or someone to spot! The question is, do you know where he hides out? It’s in plain sight if you know where to look, so when you do spot him,…smile, you’re probably on Candid Camera #3.
