The Model Yacht Club’s Boat vs Balloon derby was held on Saturday, March 7. Eight boats participated and there were several dozen spectators.
Each boat had either a pink or greenish blue balloon tied to its stern, trailing in the water. At the front of each yacht was a pin, aimed outward. The object of the derby was to position your boat carefully and pop the balloon of anyone else. Once your balloon has been popped, you could return to the dock for a second one. If the second balloon is busted, you’re out of the game.
One skipper held out long enough to be declared the winner: Rich Mieling, with his boat number 92. Congratulations Rich.
The event was fun to watch, and hopefully it will return next year.
