Where were you on June 4, 2026?  If you were in Tanglewood at the Clubhouse from 11am -1pm then you are an awesome Resident and know everything there is to know about our Hurricane Drill!  But just in case you don’t recall all of that information,  we recorded it  so you can refer to it as long as the link is available.

A professional speaker attended that morning from Highlands County Special Needs Planning, Lorie Jackson. She provided a power point presentation that included a photo of the building for Special Needs Residents to stay during a hurricane.  She defined ‘special needs’ as someone who requires electrical power for medical needs such as oxygen, BiPAP, and CPAP equipment, dialysis, etc. 

Please watch the video, and if you qualify, please sign their registration forms located in the clubhouse next to the Tanglewood registration forms. They also have an online site for registration. Tanglewood clubhouse can not guarantee electrical power won’t be interrupted. They do have a generator, but it has limited resource areas for continuous power.  Highlands County offers this Special Needs Shelter free of charge. They will pick you up from your home, and return you to your home afterward, all at no charge. They have nurses and technicians assigned to this shelter to ensure your equipment is working properly and safely. You can also bring your caregiver. If you have a pet, we will allow your fur baby to stay here in the Tanglewood Pet shelter while you go to the Special Needs Shelter. 

This is a life saving offer to residents in Highlands County who have special medical needs that require electrical power. It is a free service to our community. They provide the lounge chairs, pillow, blankets, and more. Bring your meds/ water and a snack.

But you only get those things provided if you complete a registration form. If you’re undecided, Lorie asks that you still complete the form so they can be ready for you. They will call ahead to confirm your reservation and ask if you need a ride.  You don’t get Special Needs Treatment like that anywhere else!
