Hey all you aging hippies, wannabe hippies, former hippies who now deny the whole thing, and those of you who were far too responsible to ever become hippies in the first place, this one is for you.
On Sunday, November 8, at 7:00 p.m., the Tanglewood Clubhouse is going back to 1969 when Peace of Woodstock takes the stage for an evening celebrating the music of the legendary Woodstock Music and Arts Festival.
No, there won’t be 400,000 people here. There probably won’t be any mud. And I’m reasonably certain nobody will have to abandon their Volkswagen on the highway and walk ten miles to get here.
But the music? That’s another story.
Peace of Woodstock has been performing together for about 15 years, with more than 300 shows under their belt. Their show takes us on a musical trip through Woodstock festival, from Richie Havens all the way through the amazing morning finale by Jimi Hendrix.
In between, we’re talking Janis Joplin, Santana, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Sly and the Family Stone, Arlo Guthrie and more.
In other words, the music many of us grew up with. Or maybe refused to.
And here’s the thing about music. You can forget where you left your glasses five minutes ago, walk into a room and have absolutely no idea why you went there, but let somebody play the opening notes of a song you loved in 1969 and suddenly you remember every word.
Funny how that works. Although Iβm told that if you remember 1969, you werenβt there.
So dig out the tie-dye if you still have it. (Or make one on the Veranda on 02 November, 10 AM-3 PM). Put on the bell-bottoms if you can still get into them. If not, nobody is judging. Come as you are.
For a couple of hours, we can forget about cell phones, social media, passwords, streaming services and whatever else we’re supposed to understand these days and go back to a time when music was loud (possibly why a lot of us have hearing aids today), guitars had actual guitar players attached to them, and nobody had ever heard the phrase βPlease enter the six-digit verification code we just sent you.β
Peace, love and rock & roll are coming to Tanglewood.
Peace of Woodstock performs on Sunday, November 8, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Tanglewood Clubhouse. TICKETSΒ are $25 at the door day of performance, $20 pre-sale. Season tickets, half season tickets, and reserved table tickets are also available. Ticket sales are at Monday Morning Coffee, and Thursday ticket sales in the clubhouse from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
See you there.
And yes, you can leave the Volkswagen in the parking lot.
Peace.
