The Tanglewood Veterans treated us to the annual Memorial Day ceremony at the flagpole this morning.
A decent (but not overwhelming) number of spectators squinted into the sun as the dozens of Veterans lined up, stood at attention, and saluted when ordered by Commander Dan Ward.
Once the problem with the microphone was resolved (it wasn’t turned on), Pastor Bill Burnham gave the invocation, imploring us all to honor justice and pursue unity. Nina Clancy read a short poem and Larry Bosworth read two pertinent quotes from former Presidents.
The raising of the flag was interrupted by another minor glitch when it wouldn’t go all the way up to the top of the pole, so it remained at half-mast until noon, when hopefully it did go all the way up. No matter how many times something is rehearsed, there’s always a way it can go wrong. Not a biggie.
“Taps” was played on the magic bugle, and we all moved in to the Clubhouse for coffee and donuts.
We thank the Tanglewood Veterans for their presentation.
