Memories of Mother’s Days

Published on

We all remember the Mother’s Days of yesterday. When we were children, we excitedly celebrated by gifting our moms with our works of art or wild dandelions wrapped in wet paper towels and foil. A clumsy looking vase, about to tip over, would drip water and mess up mom’s pretty tablecloth, but it did not matter. Mom was happy and proud of her children’s gifts of love.

Years later, we experienced our own Mother’s Days when our children would make us breakfast in bed. Cocoa Puffs, pop tarts, or scrambled eggs with an eggshell or two might have been our main course. And, more likely than not, a flower and card with hearts also graced the tray. To us, it was the best breakfast we had ever eaten. We rejoiced in our celebration with love, fondness, and appreciation. Our best “gifts” were our children, and we loved them with all our hearts, and were so grateful to be their moms. We never wanted them to leave our arms and could not imagine a life without them.

Today, many of us are unable to celebrate Mother’s Day with our children or grandchildren, and sadly, most of our moms now have angel’s wings. Mothers Days are mostly celebrated with a card, a phone call, or if we are lucky, Face Time! Our husbands, because they love us, and know how much we miss our children, treat us to a special dinner or we may celebrate with friends.

For the next few seconds, let’s close our eyes and remember past celebrations. Let’s remember those tiny little hands presenting us with precious gifts of love. The colorful artwork we   displayed proudly on our refrigerators with magnets for weeks. Now that you have that picture in your mind, let us also remember their moist little kisses, and  precious hugs as our children wrapped their little arms around our necks saying, “Happy Mother’s Day!”

They are all grown up, but our warm memories are with us forever! Now that you are rejoicing in your vivid memories, how about calling those children, who are now adults, and describing your memories, and how very much they meant to you then, now, and forever.

Happy Mother’s Day and may your memories be vivid, heartwarming, and last forever!
