MILLION DOLLAR GREEN BEANS

Published on

Sitting with my mother or grandmother snapping fresh green beans was something I could do even as a little girl. Straight from Daddy’s garden or out of can, they’ve always been one of my favorite vegetables. And this recipe includes another one of my loves — BACON! 🥓

MILLION DOLLAR GREEN BEANS
6 slices of bacon, coarsely chopped
½ cup finely chopped onion
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
3 tbsp reduced-sodium soy sauce
2 (10 ounce) packages frozen whole or cut green beans, thawed and drained
crushed red pepper, optional
Gather all the ingredients together.

Cook the bacon in a very large skillet over medium heat until crisp, 5 to 8 minutes. Using a slotted spoon or tongs, remove the bacon to a paper towel lined plate. Drain the bacon grease, reserving 1 tbsp of the drippings in the skillet.
Add the onion and garlic to the skillet then cook over medium heat being careful not to burn the garlic and stirring often, until the onion is tender, about 2 minutes.
Add the brown sugar and soy sauce to the skillet. Cook and stir over medium-low heat until the mixture begins to thicken, about 1 minute.
Add the green beans to the skillet and cook until they’re tender and the sauce is a glaze-like consistency, about 5 minutes.
Serve the beans topped with the crisp bacon and crushed red pepper, if desired.
