Querken

Querk-en

Transitive Verb

The choke or cause to gasp; to stifle or suffocate

I need more coffee to come up with a sentence for this one.

Querken first shows up in Middle English, but unlike just about everything else, it does NOT trace back to Latin or Greek!  This one comes from the Old Norse word kverk, meaning throat.
