One of, if not the longest lived groups in Tanglewood has got to be the Tanglethread Quilters. From a group of four ladies in the Outback to today, they have never stopped creating works of fabric art, instructing newbies, helping each other with problems, and just plain having fun. This year they celebrate their Silver Anniversary.
So many different kinds of quilts were displayed at today’s quilt show. There were the beginners’ Rail Fence quilts, collages, paper pieced, and of course, patchwork. You could see modern works of art and a Crazy Quilt dated 1904! There were displays of handbags, totes, small wall hangings, ornaments, you name it, someone has made it.
At this time there are 27 active quilters in the group. They meet every Wednesday morning in the Craft Room, and there is always room for new members. They welcome experienced sewists, as well as those who haven’t looked at a hunk of fabric since 7th grade Home Ec. Men are invited too.
This year’s Co-chairs are Barb Deck and Marie Hittinger. Today’s extravaganza was organized by Mary Ann Scharmberg, with the help of the entire cohort. Special thanks to the husbands and others who set up the tables and chairs for displaying the quilts.
