Clubhouse Hurricane Shelter Items

Published on

The Hurricane Drill is over. Now what?  What to bring to the shelter was mentioned, but, like most of us, we tend to forget after leaving the building. Below is a list of items to consider.  Pack like you are spending 24 hours in the clubhouse. Remember, it all needs to fit underneath your lounge lawn chair. Nothing in the aisles. Areas are measured off per couple or single lounge chairs. LABEL EVERYTHING WITH YOUR NAME ON IT. (print return address labels).

Normally, we begin to enter the building within 12-18 hours before the hurricane is expected to arrive. Announcements and communication Updates on a storm will be listed HERE ON TWRTIMES.COM  and on the LED Information Board outside in front of the clubhouse.  Updates will be posted as fast as we get the news ahead of time through various forms of communication. Word of mouth is usually the fastest, but not always accurate. The HOA has an excellent email service as does Hometown America with an all call for those who have computers/cell phones with that capacity.

Suggested to Bring:

  1. Pillow & Blankets and lounge lawn chair if not provided by signing up 1-100 residents.
  2. Cooler small enough to fit underneath the pool lounge chairs. Measured 16″ high.
  3. In the cooler, bag of ice, several bottles of water for yourself to drink, snacks like crackers, granola bars, etc.
  4. Some Medication may need refrigeration. There will be a special refrigerator set aside for those who need to refrigerate their meds. Your Name must be on the medication.
  5. Hearing Aids, cell phones, chargers for electrical necessary items.  You must have your name on each of them. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items. There will be a special table for the charging station located on the wall beside the Library door.
  6. Glasses, contacts, cleaner and cases for storage, possible change of clothes. Deodorant!
  7. Toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, toiletries. Hand sanitizer, extra toilet paper.
  8. Flashlight, extra batteries, headphones, ear buds, etc.
  9. Things to pass the time: Bring your own cards, books, games, puzzles.
  10. Pets: If you have a pet and want to bring them to the clubhouse, they too, must be registered. Items they need will be in another article.
  11. Bring your identification, insurance cards in case of a need for hospitalization or ambulance before or after the Hurricane.
  12. This is not a complete list, but a good start.
  13. Documents such as insurance papers, health information, legal documents, etc. can be stored inside your dishwasher before you leave. place in a water tight container. Just don’t turn it on!
