Broadway Lights Production

Sounds of Spring

What are the sounds of Spring? What do you think about when it’s Springtime? Flowers blooming, baseball games, new life, or could it be love? The Broadway Lights performance on Friday night was directed and produced by Donna Scorse. The entertainment began with the song ‘Get Together’ by Gayle Mattulina. Other vocalists and the band sang and played nearly two dozen songs throughout the evening.  Sue Cornelius and John Carter sang a duet ‘He don’t Love You’.  Judith Eckstein sang with passion, the song ‘Tammy’.  A love song, ‘The Rose’ became a duet while Sue was playing keyboard and John on bass guitar. Carol Evans, vocalist, had great audience participation when she sang “Put Your Hand in the Hand of the Man Who Stilled the Waters”.

Spring also reminds us other traditions like baseball. One of the newer members of the band, Phil Wallander, played lead guitar, and sang ‘Centerfield’ while the tech crew embellished the screen with past baseball games.  Of course, if you’re from anywhere in the USA you may recall the story of ‘Casey at the Bat’,  which was portrayed on stage by vocalists Gerry and Mark Bentley.

Time for Intermission: Since we were in the ‘era of baseball’ the audience stood and sang ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’.  After many libations, cheers and beer along with great snacks brought in by the audience, the Broadway Lights performers returned for Act II which brought back memories of Spring as the vocalists sang “Graduation day, What the World Needs Now, and here Comes the Sun” to name a few. Dave Witt, guitar, another newbie to BWL, did a marvelous job singing ‘I Can Only Imagine’.

You simply can’t have a band without a drummer. BWL has Frank Pennick to thank for making sure the beat goes on.

Back in the day, when most of us were quite a bit younger, spring meant the weather was getting warmer. Flowers like tulips and Yellow Daffodils were beginning to bloom. Other signs of spring were Birds singing, budding trees, and butterflies.  The Broadway Lights singers finale was ‘Rockin Robin’.  It was a great finish as their ‘Songs became the Sounds of Spring’.

Most of our seasonal residents are Northern bound back to their summer homes. The peaceful time of Summer is now upon those of us who call Tanglewood our forever home.

We hope you enjoyed the show. The volunteers spend hours of practice as the show date grows closer.  Thank you to the BWL volunteers who work together to make it a successful and entertaining evening for all.
