These cookies are the ones given to all Spelling Bee contestants and the tech staff.  It originated with Dee Houseknecht and is supported by 3 time Spelling Champ Barb VanDick.

MONSTER (SPELLING BEE) COOKIES

1 cup Crisco
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 1/3 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
4 eggs
1 Tablespoon vanilla
1 teaspoon lemon juice
3 cups flour
1/2 cup oatmeal
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 Teaspoon salt
1 generous teaspoon cinnamon
About 3 cups chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts or pecans

Method:

Cream the Crisco, butter, and sugars.  Beat in the eggs, vanilla and lemon juice.  Stir the flour, oatmeal, baking soda, salt and cinnamon together, then work into the batter.  Stir in chips and nuts.

Preheat oven to 350*.  Line some cookie sheets with parchment and drop the dough by quarter cupsful (for the giant cookies) or regular size.  Bake 14-16 minutes, cool and slide off the parchment.  Makes about 3 dozen monster sized cookies or 6 dozen normal sized ones.
